Are you driven to transform ideas into high-performance Saint-Gobain products? As a key contributor to our Wet Coatings team, you will lead formulation and product development with a focus on coating chemistry, wet coating processes, mixing optimization, and scale-up from lab to manufacturing.

This role is ideal for a hands-on professional who excels at designing and optimizing formulations, solving technical challenges in development and production, and leading pilot and scale-up activities. You will support multiple Business Units across Saint-Gobain North America (SGR NA) by developing new products and technologies, improving processes, and enhancing existing manufacturing operations.


Key responsibilities for the Senior Research Engineer I include: 


·    Modifying existing formulations to improve product performance, stability, and cost-effectiveness.
·    Identifying and troubleshoot formulation-related issues during product development and production.
·    Designing and developing new formulations for various products, ensuring they meet specific performance and regulatory standards.
·    Conducting scale-up trials to evaluate the feasibility of transitioning formulations from the lab to production.
·    Performing and troubleshooting pilot wet coating trials and analyze the experimental outcomes. 
·    Working closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, manufacturing, purchasing, product stewardship and marketing, to ensure successful product development and launch.
·    Managing and documenting projects effectively under minimal supervision by a technical leader.  
 

IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related field.


·    Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 3+ years of experience, or PhD with 0 to 2 years of experience in formulation, scale-up, mixing, wet coating.
·    Strong knowledge of formulation development & optimization, wet coating, scale-up.
·    Experience operating pilot wet coating equipment.
·    Must possess a body of technical work commensurate with their years of experience including but not limited to: demonstration of hands-on new product and process development, formulation, wet coating, data analysis, and drawing conclusions based on a collection of basic data and interpretation, patents, and technical documents.
·    Demonstrated strong project management skills, team collaboration, and oral, written and visual communication skills.
·    Ability to network/communicate within and out of group, as well as across disciplines. 
·    Knowledge of wet coating methodologies (e.g., roll to roll, Meyer rod, slot die etc.) is preferred.
·    Experience transitioning new processes and products to manufacturing is preferred.
·    Knowledge of rheology, mixing, physico-chemistry and analytical characterization is preferred.

Saint-Gobain aims to deliver a comprehensive Total Rewards package to support our employees’ wellbeing and help improve daily life for themselves and their families. We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer potential candidates. Provided is the national pay range for this position which is $92,000 to $142,000 per year. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 12% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.
