Line Inspector - Operator II

WHY DO WE NEED YOU?

The Line Inspector - Operator II role is critical to ensuring that CertainTeed Roofing consistently produces high-quality products that meet internal specifications, customer expectations, and regulatory standards. This position serves as a frontline quality gate within the manufacturing process, performing real-time inspections and making immediate decisions that directly impact product integrity and operational efficiency.

Essential Duties:

  • Maintain continuous quality assurance throughout production by verifying that shingles, bundles, and finished products meet required specifications before they are packaged or shipped.
  • Perform detailed quality checks such as bundle weight verification (20-count and 22-count), measuring shingle dimensions, evaluating sealant application and position, confirming pattern length, and ensuring proper paint line alignment and overall product appearance.
  • Complete layout and blend drop checks to validate color, mix consistency, and shadow line accuracy against established standards.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation by entering quality data into required systems. This supports product traceability, ISO 9001 compliance, and overall quality recordkeeping.
  • Identify and troubleshoot quality or equipment issues, evaluate potential causes, and communicate findings clearly to production teams, quality personnel, and supervisors to ensure timely corrective action.
  • This role plays a critical preventative function by having the authority to stop the production line when nonconforming material is identified, ensuring defective products do not leave the facility. Strong communication across both ends of the line and with cross-functional teams is essential to maintaining alignment and addressing out-of-spec or near-tolerance conditions.
  • Support operational excellence by maintaining a clean and organized work environment in accordance with 5S and Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Understand and operate control panels, complete start-up and shutdown checklists, and ensure equipment and work areas are safe and ready for operation.
  • Maintaining compliance with environmental, health, and safety requirements. This includes wearing proper PPE, completing all required EHS activities, and adhering to company policies and legal standards. Overall, the Line Inspector is a key contributor to product quality, workplace safety, and operational reliability.
