Our site in Orange, CT, is looking for a Quality Inspector, 1st Shift (7am to 3pm or 8am to 4pm) to join the team. Our Quality Inspectors compare measurements, form, fit, function, and value judgments of simple and complex parts to blueprint specifications and general workmanship standards using documents, experience, and knowledge of inspection techniques of Saint-Gobain. The Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring Good Documentation Practices are utilized throughout all quality records that are reviewed/completed/inspected/audited.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Inspect manufactured product for dimensional consistency, workmanship and finish.
  • Maintains the flow of product through inspection in a timely manner meeting due dates for outside processes and customer deliveries.
  • Inspects incoming materials for conformance to requirements, reviews certifications for conformance, issues DMR or NCMR in our ERP system if needed.
  • Performs In-process inspection.
  • Reviews certification packages for product and releases for shipment in ERP system.
  • Files electronic data on server and maintains accurate and orderly certification files in QA
  • Assists the Lead Inspector and Department Supervisor as needed.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

  • High School Diploma or equivalent - Required
  • Quality Inspection Experience (2 to 4 years) – Strongly Preferred
  • High attention to detail and consistency
  • Experience with basic measuring equipment such as calipers or micrometers and other common inspection tools
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints and specifications
  • Experience in a smaller production environment
  • Some experience with Visual Measuring Systems desired
  • Able to adapt and prioritize to meet our customer needs and expectations.
  • Team oriented - supports other team members and other teams as needed.

We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer prospective candidates and provide the local pay range for this position, which is $21.60 to $26.40 per hour. This hourly pay rate offered can vary depending on location, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. In addition to the hourly base pay rate, this position is eligible for periodic bonus payments/an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount can be up to 10% of hourly rate based on company and individual performance measures. The total annual target cash range (Hourly Pay Rate plus Bonus, annualized (40 hrs/week * 52wks)) for this position, is $50,900.00 to $61,400.00. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.]

The Multi-Site Plant Quality Manager will ensure the effective implementation of the Quality Management System in alignment with regulatory and corporate requirements across Two manufacturing locations:  Beaverton, MI and Williamsburg, MI.. 

Will proactively identify and report areas of concern to management while driving compliance with ISO 13485, customer specifications, and corporate quality procedures. Will be the point of contact for customer quality escalations.

Will develop and implement consistent quality systems across to enhance operational efficiency and support strategic initiatives as guided by the BPS Quality Director. Will lead, train, and develop quality teams at multiple locations, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Essential Functions:

  • Implementation and oversight of a Quality Management System that operates in compliance with corporate quality policies and procedures, as well as relevant regulatory requirements (ISO:13485) and industry guidance.
  • Oversee and manage Quality department personnel at each site, including Quality Lab, Supplier Quality, Quality Engineering, and Focus Factory Quality Engineers.
  • Develop and implement consistent quality systems across all sites to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Support the BPS Director of Quality in development and deployment of policies and procedures for elements of the global QMS.
  • Support strategic initiatives as guided by the BPS Director of Quality.
  • Promote and enforce a safe working environment, including proper use of PPE and active participation in department safety meetings.
  • Investigate and report incidents while ensuring compliance with Environmental Management System (EMS) requirements and best environmental practices.
  • Implementation of document control and review/approval of controlled documents.
  • Implementation of ECO process including change management and review of all change controls.
  • Implementation of supplier quality management and performance of supplier audits as appropriate.
  • Complaint management including robust root cause analysis and CAPA.
  • Ensure robust root cause analysis investigation and CAPA for deviations and nonconforming product.
  • Implementation of effective Internal Audit Program.
  • Ensure adequate training program is in place.
  • Implementation of an applicable Validation Master Plan including equipment, process, product, sterilization and test methods.
  • Oversight of cleanroom practices including qualification, monitoring, and behavior.
  • Implementation of Quality Risk Management in relevant aspects of the QMS.
  • Maintenance of the Global QMS e-tool (ETQ) at the plant.
  • Execute talent management activities with direct reports. Ensure proper performance management, training, and development of direct reports.
  • Customer Management including facilitate/host customer audits, ensure timely, robust and effective corrective action to customer audit observations, review/approve quality agreements with customers, partner in the resolution of quality issues and requests. 
  • Critical Events and complaint management

IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?

  • Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences related field (Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology), Engineering, Quality, Operations Management or other applicable degree with Life Sciences experience; required.
  • 10+ years of experience in a Quality function in Quality System design, development, implementation role or progressive roles held in an operations site; required.
  • 8+ years of experience in a regulated industry with preferred emphasis in life sciences (e.g., pharma, biopharm, or medical device); required.
  • 5+ years of direct supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO (ISO 13485 specifically required) and cGMP requirements and relevant industry standard practices is required. Must have the ability to interpret these regulations to ensure proper implementation in the plant systems; required.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the transportation of raw materials within the Plant using heavy equipment, including front-end loader, forklift, and bulldozer, to offload barges and feed materials into feeders and hoppers. The position takes quality samples of various materials, performs manual labor, maintains housekeeping standards, and follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Operate and maintain mill according to established procedures and processes
• Move recycled wallboard using front-end loader forklift to feed machines and conveyor belts
• Move gypsum rock in the Dome using the bulldozer
• Manually remove both dry and wet powder from under conveyor belts to clean the area using hand tools
• Maintain equipment in proper working order
• Assist with off-loading of ship and barges by securing the ship to dock, monitoring rock lines, and filling of the dome
• Perform housekeeping duties as required
• Change filter bags annually
• Observe written safety plant regulations and instructions
• Check, collect, and organize all parts and tools prior to starting the job
• Maintain a safe work environment and recognize unsafe conditions and practices and make corrections to prevent injuries and property loss. Required to complete safety audits/inspections of the assigned work area.
• Support 5S and World Class Manufacturing initiatives
• Work within the Safe Work Process and Permitting procedures in CertainTeed Gypsum Inc.
• Report to work on a regular and consistent basis
• Other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS
Works in a manufacturing plant environment with limited HVAC, concrete floors, and exposure to industrial noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature changes. Normal plant operation is 24 hours, 7 days a week and work hours may vary depending on business needs. May require long hours, and weekend and holiday work. May require travel by air and rental cars.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Must be capable of wearing personal protective equipment necessary to comply with government and company safety standards whenever engineered methods of reducing hazards or physical requirements cannot be reasonably accommodated

We are offering between $102,000 and $158,000 annually based on experience and education.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety or equivalent related area highly preferred
  • 5+ years’ professional plant and OSHA Standards experience required.
  • 7+ year’s professional plant and OSHA Standards experience required in lieu of Bachelor’s degree
  • Knowledge with Saint-Gobain Safety Policies and practices a plus
  • Extensive proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint is required
  • Manufacturing experience in technical fabrics/textile industry

Required to have a valid driver’s license for business travel, approximately 10% of the time

 

  • Direct training programs for assuring that all affected Hourly and Salaried employees are fully and properly trained on the subjects of in-plant handling of hazardous materials, and safety-related items (lockout/tagout audits/procedures, safety policy and compliance) as required by corporate, state, local, and federal regulations. Implementation of the annual plants action plans and Corporate plans including SAFEHEAR and SARA.

 

  • Stay current on all corporate, local, state and federal EHS regulations and keep informed of all upcoming regulations and of their effect upon the facility. As the Manufacturing EHS Representative, the incumbent will lead monthly Safety and Emergency Response meetings, assure monthly safety tours and associated action is conducted, overall safety policy compliance, annual lockout/tagout audits and lockout/tagout procedures are maintained and up-to-date, and will act as the facilities safety representative for all safety issues.

 

  • Formulates general safety policies and procedures to be followed by plant personnel in compliance with corporate, local, state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations. Lead in identification, analysis and control of occupational hazards requiring the application of professional engineering knowledge, skill and abilities. Apply knowledge of psychological and physiological factors to assist in the design of safety features and controls, compensating for the possibility of human errors in the operation of machinery and equipment.

 

  • Facilitates inspection of facility to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, and recommends corrective or preventive measures where appropriate. Participates in the investigation of accidents and injuries. Compiles and submits agency reporting and maintains safety, health & environmental files and records.

 

  • Participates and leads in the development and implementation of employee training and development programs. Participates and leads, as required, WCM Projects and Programs.

 

  • Manages Worker’s Compensation programs including claims management and the return-to-work program, for assigned personnel.

 

  • Maintains EPA records of hazardous waste, air emission permitting, and water pollution discharge, as well as industrial health monitoring and records of employee hazard exposure according to OSHA regulations.

 

  • Leads site environmental and sustainability efforts, including reporting, to support Saint-Gobain’s 2050 carbon neutrality goal.

 

  • Leads site safety cultural change needs when identified. Ability to design action plans following root cause analysis of site issues and provide advice on resolution. Possesses ability to coach others.

Duties and Responsibilities

The responsibilities and accountabilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Answer phones quickly, professionally, courteously, and direct incoming calls to appropriate individuals.

  • Field and respond to inquiries regarding products, service, pricing, lead time, delivery, returns, and complaints.

  • Work closely and effectively with Sales, Production, Supply Chain and Shipping to resolve issues and to develop new ideas and strategies to improve customer service.
  • Maintain a high standard of professional knowledge, ethics and practices when dealing with customers, suppliers, peers, subordinates, supervisors, and other key stakeholders of the company.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner that reflects integrity and respect towards customers, suppliers, peers, subordinates, supervisors, and other key stakeholders of the company.
  • Understand, support, and adhere to the company’s health and safety polices, programs and procedures by communicating and promoting health and safety awareness.

  • Review all planned job (s) with Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Requesting, knowledge and whereabouts of all materials need for planned jobs.

  • Form task lists, man-hours, safety requirements and work performance for developing repetitive jobs.
  • Maintain open communications with Production and Maintenance to effectively plan and schedule assigned work.

  • Report all EH&S incidents – Injuries/Recordables, Near Misses, First Aid, Environmental and Property/Equipment Damage.
  • Ensure adherence to Waste Management and Recycling responsibilities.
  • Participate in Incident & Near Miss Investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions.
  • Participate in the development, understanding and review of all position JSA’s
  • Conduct required SMAT Audits in accordance with plant goals and objectives.

KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES (SKILLS & ABILITIES): Position requires a minimum of an associate degree in a technical field, and/or requisite maintenance experience that lends itself to a working knowledge of machines, their operation and spare parts needs. Must demonstrate core competencies of effective communications, listening, and have strong organizational skills. Must understand purchasing procedures and MRO parts distribution, be computer literate, and have knowledge of computerized maintenance systems, or possess the ability to learn. Position is dedicated to providing direction for machine repairs and tracking of needed parts. Planners must be comfortable with physical aspects of the plant's environment; i.e., working with various byproducts of raw materials used in the operation.
