WHY DO WE NEED YOU?

CertainTeed, a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain is looking for a Research Technician to join their team and facilitate the R&D processes for sustainable building materials. The Research Technician safely performs specialized R&D assignments, involving testing, prototyping, installing, operating, and/or solving problems concerning our processes, equipment, and products. Prototypes and products generally relate to the construction and building materials. Processes and operations tend to mimic manufacturing systems at lab-/pilot-scale, ensuring that our trials and experiments can be scaled up in an industrialized fashion.

The Research Technician, alongside the principal investigators, develops and implements protocols and standard operating procedures to ensure and maintain a high level of safety, consistency, and organization in experiments. They collaborate closely with principal investigators to conduct experiments and to troubleshoot issues in support of the overall research goals. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, 5S, training, updating SOPs, communications about the overall project progress, maintaining proper inventory of the materials, and general equipment maintenance.

  • Supports engineers and scientists in R&D team with their projects.
  • Executes and/or supports commercial and manufacturing support requests.
  • Manages and documents projects and tasks effectively with supervision.
  • Plays role in lab management: safety aspects, equipment maintenance, 5S, lab audit preparation and action follow-up, lab postings, regular equipment checks etc.
  • Demonstrates open and collaborative approach in all areas of responsibilities.
  • Conducts hands-on experimental work, prototyping, and is engaged in test method development.

Essential Functions

Prepares/processes materials samples including:

  • Conduct standard and exploratory experimental tasks.
  • Routine laboratory activity to make or prep materials and test samples.
  • Development work with non-routine R&D assignments such as design of fixtures for experimental set-up and establishing proper data acquisition.
  • Collects and reports scientific & engineering data obtained from laboratory equipment through an effective plan/coordination and maintains laboratory notebook.
  • Maintain laboratories and equipment including set-up and operation of experimental equipment or instruments, 5S, and preparations for lab audits.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

Required Qualifications

High School diploma or GED (demonstrated equivalent) with 1-5 years of relevant technical experience in manufacturing environments, research laboratories, and/or pilot-scale R&D. Associates degree in an Engineering, Technical or Science related field (or demonstrated equivalent) preferred, including related experience in independent technical projects.

    • General laboratory knowledge required.
    • Create a grassroots proactive culture of safety (physical) by encouraging, empowering, and involving all staff in safety.
    • Ability to implement and maintain lab safety (physical) by ensuring safety protocols on all lab activities.
    • Able to work in a plant environment as needed to scale up products or processes.
    • Experience in construction, framing, building materials, and their installation preferred.
    • General knowledge regarding proper chemical handling preferred.

Human Resources Supervisor

What’s the job?

The incumbent will provide leadership to effectively manage all plant human resource programs concerned with employment, diversity recruitment, organizational development and training, employee relations, safety, public relations and communications, wage and salary administration in accordance with company policies, programs, and procedures, as well as federal, state and local laws and regulations. The site employs both hourly, non-exempt and exempt staff with a work force of around 60 to 70 employees. This position reports directly to the Regional Human Resources Manager.

  • Lead necessary changes and improvements within the organization to deliver healthy employee relations and organizational improvement.
  • New hire processing and tracking activity as outlined by company policies and procedures along with presenting the HR/Benefits programs - Lead local efforts on effective recruitment, hiring and retention initiatives.
  • Manage benefit administration and new hire orientation process for all employees –- direct all LiveWell initiatives and achieve employee involvement.
  • Processing of payroll changes and additions via PeopleSoft and manage UKG timekeeping system.

What do you bring?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or a related area - concentration in HR studies a plus, as well as three (3) to five (5) years Human Resources experience in a manufacturing environment.

Quality Engineer II

WHY DO WE NEED YOU?

The Quality Engineer has direct responsibility for implementing, maintaining, and facilitating continuous quality improvement objectives primarily in the Bearings department.

The application of quality tools (SPC, DOE, FMEA, PPAP, Control Plans, etc.) to meet facility, customer, and quality system requirements is a critical part of this position.   • 3+ years of experience as Quality Engineer in Automotive Parts Manufacturing environment required.
  • 1 year of experience in supervising and mentoring Inspectors and Technicians preferred.
  • Experience in developing and compiling PPAP submission information (AIAG guidelines and in the application and implementation of SPC and DOE, and in the training of SPC techniques required.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

Senior Research Engineer 1 – Architectural Ceilings and Walls

CertainTeed is committed to be the leader in light and sustainable construction. To achieve this vision, we are looking for a driven, talented, and experienced engineer to join our Architectural Ceilings and Walls R&D team within the Interior Products Group of CertainTeed/Saint-Gobain. This member of the R&D team will be located at the CertainTeed Strongsville manufacturing site and enable efficient manufacturing of interior building products for the wood ceiling and wall specialty segments. Projects will focus on improvement of processes, performance and product development activities related to the entire CertainTeed specialty ceilings product line.

As a Senior Research Engineer, the candidate will be expected to effectively collaborate with cross functional teams (R&D, EHS, operations, supply chain, product management) to execute and deliver project objectives within the wood ceiling segment. The candidate will use excellent scientific methodology to create and execute project plans, design production trials, analyze data, and communicate findings. The candidate will also act as the lead engineer for the provision of adequate tools, equipment, and process methods while applying the best practices to define quality standards, manage risks, and complete validation testing. The candidate is expected to collaborate with plant personnel to identify opportunities for process improvement and propose best practices to R&D and the business.

Essential Functions

  • Work safely in manufacturing environment and actively participate in continuous improvement of the Saint-Gobain safety culture.
  • Lead new innovation development for the Architectural Ceilings and Walls team, with a focus on specialty products.
  • Independently drive new product design in alignment with portfolio and customer needs.

  • Experience in wood materials and manufacturing techniques required.
  • Strong ability to communicate verbally and via written documentation.
  • Experience in ISO 9001 & 14991 management systems preferred.
  • Experience in DOE, FMEA, VSM, 5S, Kaizen, and 8D Methodologies preferred.
  • Understanding of PMBOK Guideline, Stage Gate / APQP, ECN/MOC for process development preferred.

Certain states require pay information be provided in job postings. The national pay range for this position is $66,900 to $103,500 per year, however, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 9% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The total target cash range (base pay and annual bonus) for this position, is $72,900 to $112,800.

Senior Cost Accountant

WHY DO WE NEED YOU?

In this role, you will facilitate business plans and operational decisions, by generation /analyses of financial reports and shop floor reporting.

You will assist with the cost accounting function within the facility -specifically, as it relates to product costs, and processes. You will also manage, analyze and report financial results of the Manufacturing facility -specifically work orders and inventory related activities. Specific duties will encompass the following:

  • Cost Maintenance: work order reporting and analysis, product costing, cost roll-up, assist with internal procedures and policies
  • Monthly Close Process: Perform journal entry posting, balance sheet reconciliations
  • Reporting and Analysis: Assist with site-specific financials, various variance analysis and department spending analysis. Run daily audit reports. Costing of new product and participation in the budget and updating the ERP during the budget phase.
  • Fixed Asset Maintenance: Maintain a fixed asset roll forward schedule; work with project manager to confirm asset status. Ensure all fixed assets are placed into service timely. Lead fixed asset audits.

In addition, the Cost Accountant role will undertake metrics, assist controller with special projects and audit requests.

Research Engineer II - CRL Materials Characterization

WHY DO WE NEED YOU?

The Competency Research Lab within Saint-Gobain Research North America, Northborough, MA is seeking a Research Engineer to join their Materials Characterization team.

The Research Engineer will focus primarily on molecular spectroscopy: Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy applied to the analysis of a wide variety of materials including polymers, ceramics, adhesives, films, fabrics, building materials, abrasives, and more. Additionally, this new team member will oversee the planning, execution, and reporting of test results, as well as the development and validation of new methods and advanced techniques that provide a high degree of customized problem-solving to address critical technical questions and performance observations.

As a member of Saint-Gobain Research North America CRL Materials Characterization Team, Research Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Providing multidimensional support to research and manufacturing activities using expertise in materials analysis/characterization.
  • Complex problem solving and leading project work as a part of a cross-functional team.
  • Competency development for materials characterization.
  • Responsible for all aspects of laboratory operation including safety, sample backlog, report approvals, customer interaction, instrumentation maintenance and repair, proposal, and implementation of new Capex.
