What’s the job?

This role is responsible for strategic and tactical planning to control the risks associated with process development and industrialization. You will perform individual analysis or lead analysis teams to identify the critical parameters required to produce quality products, which meet or exceed product specifications. The position focuses on overall process and project management, lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, engineering, and strategic automation. Responsible for participating in process design, capability and control; including designing, selecting, accepting and developing processes for new production and automation equipment. Capital planning and project management are key required competencies. In addition, a commitment to statistical analysis tools are critical for the successful support of the appropriate WCM (Operational Excellence) pillars.

In this role, you will be required to have sound technical and leadership abilities, along with structured and methodical project management skills, i.e., project charter development, statement of work, project planning and scheduling, actions and deliverables, milestones, risk assessment and proactive corrective actions, good management and controls, excellent documentation and thorough supportive project handoff. This role is accountable for overall engineering project management with advanced technical support in the areas of safety and productivity.

Accountable for install, setup, troubleshoot and validate engineering projects group wide. Excellent understanding of engineering fundamental principles and their applications and be a project management professional or have equivalent experience. A strong IQ and EQ balance, i.e., strong mechanical, chemical, and electrical knowledge and a strong collaborative and engaging servant leadership style. Knowledge of mechanical assemblies and drive components and electrical equipment where you can perform electrical and mechanical testing and troubleshooting utilizing schematics and experience, i.e., mechanical drives, industrial process control systems and production equipment, PLC’s, HMI’s, hydraulic motors, pumps and valves, material handling equipment, extrusion equipment, bulk chemical systems, batch mixing, facility equipment and packaging equipment. The role requires your commitment, support, and complete ownership through the end of each project where you do not segue the project to the group once it is completely validated and then closed out.

Pay Transparency

Certain locations require pay information be provided in job postings. Saint-Gobain aims to deliver a comprehensive Total Rewards package to support our employees’ wellbeing and help improve daily life for themselves and their families. We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer potential candidates. Provided is the national pay range for this position which is $102,000 to $158,000 per year. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 13% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The Total Target Cash range (base pay and annual bonus) for this position, is $115,260 to $178,540. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.

Manufacturing Process Engineer

A Manufacturing Process Engineer, is responsible for designing, implementing, and reviewing the procedures and equipment involved in the manufacturing process. Their duties include researching automation techniques, testing new systems for efficiency and planning factory layouts to optimize production.

This Engineer will develop and implement World Class Manufacturing projects, production and processing methods, and controls to meet customer-based quality standards in the most cost-effective manner. Through the application of engineering fundamentals and advanced process control statistical tools, they will ensure processes are centered, capable, in control, will reduce process variations, and resolve special causes of variation.

Responsibilities include:

  • Analyze production processes, schedules, methods, and other data and then provide management with reports containing the data and statistics to enable management to better understand future requirements needed for the manufacturing process.
  • Ensure that the company’s manufacturing processes follow all government laws and regulations.
  • Review and calculate labor, material, and other production costs along with reviewing schedules and future production requirements to assist management in decision making.
  • Analyze and plan workflow, equipment placement and space requirements to improve manufacturing efficiency.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance and repair services and make sure that manufacturer’s procedures and instructions are followed to keep production equipment operational.
  • Complete material and energy balances, develop process
  • Use Focus Improvement and Kaizen
  • Ability to optimize processes, improve efficiency and troubleshoot
  • Participate and run trials at manufacturing facilities to evaluate equipment, process, and raw material

 

IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science, Industrial Management, or related technical discipline preferred; Three years of equivalent experience that provides a comprehensive working knowledge of the laws, regulations, practices, and procedures of a lean/world-class manufacturing operation may be substituted for a degree.

Senior Research Engineer I - Mechanics - Composites

The Digital Technology & Innovation department is looking for a Senior Research Engineer I to join them within the Competency Research Labs at Saint-Gobain Research North America located in Northboro, MA. The Digital Technology & Innovation department works closely with Saint-Gobain’s various business units and translates data and foundational knowledge in applied mathematics, metrology, programming, and mechanical systems to tailored physical and digital solutions.

The Senior Research Engineer I will conduct hands-on laboratory experiments and analytical studies for key development programs. Projects will focus on process and product development activities related to Saint-Gobain’s extensive product line. The candidate will research and develop new technologies related to fiber and fabric reinforcements and apply them to new processes or products. The candidate is also expected to be seen as a leader within group that is a resource to other group members and helps to develop others within the group.

The new hire will be expected to lead R&D projects within mechanics of fiber composites and textiles while collaborating with R&D colleagues, product managers, product engineers, application engineers and external customers. The SREI will create and execute project plans, design, and conduct experiments, analyze data, and present findings in written and oral formats. The Candidate is also expected to play a role in proposing projects and programs vital to the R&D direction of the group. In addition to the candidate’s primary projects, the candidate will be expected to support projects led by others.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct research and development projects, and work with multidisciplinary team in developing innovative new technologies on polymeric fibers.
    • Lead the fiber/textile research involving chemistry, formulation, braiding, and technology development for new product innovations to meet specific functional requirements and performance standards.
    • Identify, develop, and implement new materials solutions of polymeric fibers, and perform in-depth characterization and testing on the strength, thermomechanical property, flexibility, and durability.
  • Proactively explore and integrate scientific literature to develop hypotheses and experimental designs aimed at advancing our understanding of fiber development, while collaborating with team members.
  • Maintain a high level of organization and record-keeping, ensuring accurate documentation of experimental procedures and results. Maintain on-time and accurate reporting of deliverables to stakeholders globally.
  • Collaborate effectively within cross-functional project teams, and support technology transfer and scale-up efforts to the production team. Provide technical expertise and support to production teams for process optimization and troubleshooting.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in fiber technology and interact with customers and key strategic partners (including external partners, universities, national labs and suppliers) to drive innovation and competitive advantage.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

BS Degree with a minimum of 7+ years’ experience, or MS with 3+ years of experience or entry level PhD plus demonstrated technical judgment/accomplishments in Mechanical/Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical engineering, Textile Engineering, or other related fields.

  • Expertise and experience on polymeric fibers (polymer chemistry, formulation, processing, etc.) required.
  • In-depth understanding of the structure-property relationships of fibers to enable new product development to achieve the specific functional performance.
  • Knowledge of fiber processing techniques and characterization required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and draw actionable conclusions.
  • Flexible interpersonal skills, collaborative mind, and commitment to innovation.
  • Self-motivated with ability to prioritize goals and objective with minimum supervision.
  • Document accomplishments in clear and coherent technical reports and presentations.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and standards related to fiber materials.
  • Proficiency in statistics and design of experiment. Knowledge of modeling tools for braided fabrics, such as netting analysis, MATLAB, FEA or equivalent software is a plus.

Consistent with CertainTeed Gypsum Vision, Mission, Values, and Objectives, the Area Performance Manager provides the leadership for employees to implement a continuous improvement culture throughout the site. This will be done through direct leadership of the Performance Team and collaborative efforts to provide process support, directly or through subordinates using Lean/Continuous Improvement principles & WCM tools.

As a member of the plant management team, they will lead performance improvement efforts in a manner to achieve maximum productivity and operating efficiencies within safety, quality, service, and cost standards.

The Area Performance Manager will be responsible for the team's performance and is accountable for improving the applicable standards in the plant. The Area Performance Manager reports to the Sr. Plant Manager. Reporting directly to the Area Performance Manager are a team of engineers.

  • Directs and coaches Performance Team Engineers by coaching for optimal performance and providing leadership and information needed to empower employees to achieve corporate, plant, department, and individual goals, from both an immediate and long-term perspective.
  • Act as a plant change agent, leading & coordinating the Company Lean, WCM, and Continuous Improvement transformation.
  • Guides Performance Team to teach and promote the use of Lean principles & WCM tools.
  • Develop and report key metrics that track the progress of Continuous Improvement initiatives versus goals.
  • Development &/or customization of training materials for classroom & factory floor settings.
  • Collaborate with plant teams to utilize visual management.

Senior Engineering and Maintenance Manager

Consistent with the Corporate Objectives, World Class manufacturing principles and within a high-performance team environment, the Senior Engineering and Maintenance Manager provides leadership to effectively manage maintenance and engineering functions of the CertainTeed gypsum wallboard and plaster manufacturing plant located in Silver Grove, KY.

This position will guide maintenance and be responsible for the physical plant including buildings, grounds, machinery, and equipment, in compliance with local, state, and federal environmental and fire prevention standards. This Manager will also manage plant engineering activities to include capital expenditures, designs, cost estimations, capital requests, and selection/construction projects.The Senior Engineering and Maintenance Manager reports to the plant Senior Operations Manager. Reporting directly this Manager is a team of maintenance professionals and engineers

Below are some of the responsibilities this person will perform:

  • Develop departmental strategy and provide leadership to all departmental employees in the control & improvement of production processes, efficiency improvements, cost–savings initiatives, and CAPEX projects. Identifies and utilizes various change management strategies to overcome organizational roadblocks and achieve desired change levels and review outcomes for effectiveness. Primary interface with governmental agencies and compliance inspectors.
  • Effectively and continuously communicating with engineering, maintenance, operations and warehouse personnel and plant management. Internal contacts involve all plant teams in process control, purchasing and accounting personnel on requisitions and capital request data, and corporate engineering on special projects. Coordinates production to meet customer demands ensuring the maintenance work and project implementation outages are optimized.
  • Significant problem-solving situations involve scheduling of preventative and predictive maintenance programs and the installation, modification and /or repair of equipment in a manner which will assure employee safety, minimize production downtime, and assure product quality.
  • Directly leads all employees using team building, coaching, and teaching skills and knowledge of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) to lead the PM activities in expansion of lean manufacturing to all areas of the plant.

Senior Financial Analyst

WHY DO WE NEED YOU?

The Sr. Financial Analyst acts as a business partner and trusted advisor who supports and leads the Commercial Building Envelope (CBE) Must Win Battles (MWB) enabling and managing rapid, profitable growth through functional excellence, resource allocation and continuous capital investment within North America. The role directly oversees the finance aspects related to Sales to Off-Site Factories, OPA performance and related SG&A spend.

Responsibilities include:

  • Business Financial Reporting and Analysis:
    • Coordinate and analyze monthly forecasts from Off-Site Solutions (OSS) inputs (i.e. – 3ME)
    • Dissect financial data (Mix – Product Portfolio, Pricing, COF/Inflation, Subcontracting cost, SG&A and Inventory movements) and non-financial data (Headcount, Quality etc.) to identify risks and opportunities to improve financial performance and drive change.
    • Analyze OSS Product Line Profitability, report progress towards budget commitment, financial performance achievements and trends.
    • Prepares “what-ifs” simulations, recommend course of action.
    • Ensure accuracy and integrity of the BU balance sheet.
  • Strategic Planning:
    • Support the BU product portfolio assessment for opportunities to drive growth and value creation through resource allocation / prioritization, monitoring of innovation and support on acquisition opportunities.
    • Coordinate planning and prepare analysis for the financial cycles (Budget, RF, LRP) and reporting to OSS and CBE leadership, present alternative scenarios with risks and opportunities; recommend course of action.
    • Determine, implement, monitor, in conjunction with business leaders (SLT) goals for profitability, optimization and growth to ensure alignment with EBITDA, OFCF and ROCE% Targets.
    • Actively manage the capital requirement process & forecasting (CIP Aging, Capex+, Payback)
  • Process Improvement:
    • Propose and support digital transformation to increase standardization and improve infrastructure.
    • Enforce ownership and accountability of internal service providers (shared services, systems) for processes within scope.
  • Business Partnership:
    • Central MFG, SG&A, and R&D Departments: Support preparation of the RFs, LRPs, Budgets partnering with OSS Management, Group Controller tracking spend, recommend action plans/countermeasures to address any gaps to budget expectations.
    • Consolidation and reporting of results: analyze CBE financial statements and evolution vs. budget commitment and prior year, identify risk and opportunity areas.
    • Prepare monthly reporting packages (comments and presentations), attend internal CBE Finance, MWB monthly calls.
    • Organize the OSS calendar and templates for budget and reforecasting cycles, support Group Controller, FP&A Director with the annual budget presentation preparation.
    • Lead, Coordinate with Finance, IT team digital projects aiming to create KPI dashboards consolidating data from multiple sources of business operations (OPS, Sales, Marketing and R&D).
    • Lead actual vs. quote (margin performance) & OSS Capital Allocation & Post Investment reviews.
  • Business Intelligence:
    • Assist Team members to understand business context, identify opportunities for improvement and take on stretch assignments.
    • Aid functional departments to promote a better understanding of financial tools and metrics designed to enhance profitability, provide training as applicable.
  • Compliance:
    • Manage alongside with the OSS Managing Director, Group Controller, Compliance Manager and BU partners to ensure implementation of business controls and internal control risk mitigation within OSS & CBE.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

To be successful within this role, the Specialist should have the following education, experience, and core competencies: 

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in business/finance and analytical roles of increasing responsibility. Previous experience should include roles such as a Senior Financial Analyst, Accountant or Other Finance/Business positions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance from a four-year college or university, required.
  • Master’s degree in finance/business development or equivalent experience, preferred.
  • Self-starting individual and ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Strong communication and influence skills to effectively collaborate up, down and transversally in a complex organization.

Saint Gobain Research North America’s Life Sciences Filtration Technologies team is searching for a talented Senior Research Engineer I to join their team.

The position of Senior Research Engineer I will be responsible for researching and developing new technologies to strengthen and expand our filtration offerings. The selected candidate will lead R&D projects from the initial stages of conceptualization and prototyping through experimental testing and commercialization by leveraging their experience and materials science expertise. This role involves close collaboration with R&D colleagues, the commercial team, application engineers, and end-users. This role will be located at the Saint-Gobain North America Research Center, and it will work closely with the Life Sciences R&D teams and Competency Research Laboratories. The Filtration portfolio covers markets and applications such as medical devices, biopharma, cell and gene therapy, diagnostics, and semiconductor manufacturing.

Essential Functions

  • Utilizes strong research and/or project experiences and broad expertise in engineering and material science to improve on/or develop new filtration solutions.
  • Manages projects from inception through scale-up. Manages multiple projects simultaneously, on time, well documented and within budget to meet business and customer objectives. Able to balance creativity with process and documentation.
  • Builds close relationships with customers, product management, R&D team, application engineers, and position himself/herself as a technical expert to address customer challenges, explain our products and technology, and assist with product and application development.
  • Work with quality, customers and application engineers to troubleshoot and analyze complaints and differentiate between application and product-related issues. Aids in the investigation and timely resolution of quality complaints.
  • Stays aware of new technology and product developments within the markets and applications of interest to the Life Science Business.
  • Excellent communicator who can communicate technically with internal and external collaborators and utilize knowledge to identify solutions, advance projects and identify productive synergies.
  • Understands Gate Process and Change/Design Control methodology/ideology and utilizes and incorporates it in projects.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

Education:

BS degree and 7 years’ experience, MS degree and 3 years’ experience or PhD (entry level) in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, or related fields.

Experience – Required:

  • 4+ years of experience with fundamental research, product development, application development, or manufacturing experience in Life Science fields.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience on laboratory work, preferably in Life science applications.
  • 3+ years of experience in the management or running a project. Includes creating timelines, costing, communicating, presenting to leadership, etc.

Experience – Preferred:

  • 3+ years of strong fundamental and practical knowledge of filtration technology and applications in markets such as Biopharma, medical, and microelectronics.
    • 3+ years of experience in the development of filtration products and applications.

The Process Engineer will assist with Hot End Process Innovation through close collaboration with CertainTeed and Saint-Gobain support.

Utilizing World Class Manufacturing (WCM) principles, this position will focus on product formulation, process development and optimization, equipment design and optimization, general project engineering, and trial planning and execution.

 

  • Reports directly to the Hot End Manager.
  • Participates in WCM project teams which analyze process variations; develop solutions, and implements corrective actions by using advanced statistical tools in identifying and resolving the root causes of the variations in the process.
  • Responsibilities include developing new process systems, revising existing processes, and developing and coordinating the implementation of projects, which contribute substantially to plant profitability.
  • Responsible for safely and successfully executing projects, documenting, and with assistance from supervisor communicating progress and results through reports, presentations etc.
  • With supervision, will complete process and equipment related projects and work towards independent project responsibilities.

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 10% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The total target cash range (base pay and annual bonus) for this position, is $87,400 to $135,850.
